Actually three buildings that form a large complex, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building is home to many of Tokyo's major government offices. You can get a bird's eye view of downtown Tokyo from one of two free observatories located on the 45th floor of the main building, one of the tallest buildings in the city. Right near the action and close to bus and rail stations, take in the excitement of downtown Tokyo in all its glory. Allow plenty of time for shopping, dining, and possibly exploring Tokyo's nearby wild red-light district, Kabuki-cho, or just see it from the observatory. Need a place to stay? Don't worry; Tokyo's top hotels are also close by. Also called "Tokyo City Hall" or "Tax Tower" by some of the locals, it was designed in 1991 to look like a computer microchip.
