Shinjuku Station: the busiest rail transit station in Tokyo and the entire world Handling millions of passengers each day, if you visit during rush hour (between about 7 and 9 in the morning), it might make your morning commute back home seem like a walk in the park. Originally established in 1885, it has grown up quite a bit since then with several subway and rail lines in service, and is now surrounded by some of Tokyo's tallest skyscrapers, Kabuki-cho which is Tokyo's most popular red light district and a tremendous variety of entertainment and shopping venues. Shinjuku Gyoen and Central Park are also nearby as oases in a desert of glass and steel.
